The moderator will open the session by engaging participants in the development of ecomaps as tools for identifying and mapping the strength of partnerships needed to effect legislative and regulatory changes. Using their different experiences, the presenters will discuss how to develop relationships with allies to advocate for change, distinguishing between lobbying and strategic advocacy that informs and educates legislators about the characteristics of the social work profession.
After completing this session, participants should be able to:
- Complete an ecomap that describes the strengths and weaknesses of partnerships working on legislative or regulatory changes.
- Distinguish between lobbying and strategic advocacy.
- Identify action steps to build partnerships with the people in power in their jurisdiction.
